With the men’s designer wear gaining popularity, many women designers are keen to

enter the segment. In keeping with this trend, the third season of Van Heusen India Men’s Week in September will see a rise in the number of women designers set to showcase their men’s wear lines. Women designers are coming up with fresh ideas for men’s wear. This development means that words like fashion and style which have traditionally been associated with women have come into men’s wear. Changing social norms have made it more acceptable for men to express themselves through their style of dresses.

From one woman designer in the first season, two in the second, this time around the Men’s Week will make way for four women designers. They include: Krishna Mehta, Sancheta Azzampur, Rajvi Mohan and Anjana Bhargav. Krishna Mehta will present traditional but modern silhouettes. It will blend Indian craft in a contemporary style, with a mixed color palette. Probably this is a reflection of trends worldwide. At the summer 2012 Paris collections, Sarah Burton for McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Donatella Versace, Rei Kawakubo and Agnes B showed a strong line of men’s wear designs. The collections featured all sorts of techno fibers that react well to sweat, as well as lightweight natural fabrics such as denim, cotton poplin and linen. Big stripes and flame prints were featured as were long tunics and kurtas. Besides this the other aspect that marks the highlight of the Men’s Week is the finale show by Karan Johar and Varun Bahl under the duo’s label.
