World’s most expensive sari by Chennai Silks

The Chennai Silks, based in Tamil Nadu has woven the most

expensive sari in the world. The world record setting sari is worth Rs 4 million and weighs around 8 kg. It is intricately embellished with more than 12 precious gem stones and metals, such as gold, diamond, emerald, ruby, platinum, silver, yellow sapphire, sapphire, cat’s eye, topaz, pearl and coral. The masterpiece portrays the replica of the famous artwork ‘Lady Musicians’ by the great Indian painter Raja Ravi Verma.

The 11 painting series, woven on the sari, feature every small detail of the renowned women choir illustration, right from the curly hair of the ladies to the jewels they are wearing. Woven by 30 handloom weavers over seven months, the dazzling creation was unveiled by popular South Indian actresses Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Shobhana and Jeeva.
