51st IIGF begins on a positive note in New Delhi

Kavuru Sambasiva Rao, Union Minister for Textiles, inaugurated the 51st India International Garment Fair (IIGF) in New Delhi yesterday. Secretary Textiles, Zohra Chatterji and Chairman AEPC, A Sakthivel also addressed the gathering.


After the successful golden jubilee year of IIGF, this year’s edition being held at ITPO Paragti Maidan and it promises to be yet another positive business event. IIGF brings together the best in Indian apparel and accessories, fabrics exhibitors under one roof. Associations like AEMA, GEA, CMAI and GEAR are also participating in this year’s fair.

Speaking at the inauguration A Sakthivel, Chairman AEPC said, “We are very hopeful that this edition will serve as a much needed platform and an opportunity for a large number of exhibitors and buyers from across the globe to interact under one roof. Response to the earlier IIGF had been commendable and this time too it will definitely provide the much needed fillip to the Indian textile industry.”

He went on to say, that to achieve targets and meet their goals, AEPC targeted non-traditional markets like Chile, Uruguay, Columbia, Panama, Israel, Brazil, Australia, South Africa, Denmark, Croatia, Estonia and Japan. “We are putting energies in making garment collection, fabric shows and BSM in India. Nearly 24 export promotion events planned for FY 2013-14 include participating in seven international fairs, organizing six overseas buyer-seller meets, and 11 domestic export promotion events. July has several important participations like Fatex Fair in Paris, Hong Kong Fashion Week and International Fashion Fair (IFF), Tokyo, Japan. In August we are participating in the Sourcing at Magic, Las Vegas, followed by BSM, New York and Spain,” added Sakthivel.

He further stated that apparel exports touched 1,240 million dollars (Rs 74,152 crores) in June 2013-14 an increase of 12.13 percent against the corresponding month of last financial year. “Factory compliant manufacturing in India has surged with new and unprecedented export orders in the current season. World renowned chain stores and international brands have preferred expanding their sourcing of the merchandise from India. The flow of expansion of orders in India is expected to fetch additional 3 billion dollars (Rs 17, 940 crores) worth business in the country,” he explained.

Many companies and buyers from across the world have come to attend the event. One to one meetings and matching of buyers are being organized on the spot for the business generation. Everyday there are fashion shows for the promotion of products displayed.
