Designers sparkle at the 4th edition of BFW

The fourth edition of the Bangalore Fashion Week (BFW) 2011 got off to a rocking start in the Garden City. The first day of the fashion extravaganza had big names like Haasya Chandna, Kishan Bagri, Riyaz Gangji, Anju Modi and Satya Paul.

The show also had beauties like Kulraj Randhawa, Zeenat Aman and Shriya Saran walking the ramp, flaunting designs of various designers.

Designer Haasya Chandna opened the show with her collection, which was divided into a three series color palette. The models showcased short dresses and gowns with drapes, made from silk and satin with embellishments made from mother of pearl, metal belts and appliqués. Actress Kulraj Randhawa as the showstopper wore a stunning red carper gown. On the same day designer Kishan Bagri, presented a bridal wear collection. Riyaz Gangji’s show Libas was a mix of casual men’s wear and traditional women’s wear. With so much shimmer around, Anju Modi’s show was surely a breather for the eyes. Satya Paul presented the last show of the day. It was a bridal collection with fabrics like exotic silk knits, georgette velvet, brocades and the traditional Kanjeevarams. The color palette ranged from plush jewel tones in emerald and royal blue to fuchsias, pinks and reds.

Day 2 also had a long list of designers with their collections. They included Nataasha Munnangi, Chaitali and Biplab, Genelia and Leena, Reshma Kunhi, Gautam Gupta and Archana Kochhar. Actress Chitrangada was the show stopper for Archana Kochhar.

On Day 3, designers like Ramesh Dembla, Swapnil Shinde, Pria Kataaria Puri and Monapali showcased their collections. Monapali the brand from well – known designers, Mona and Pali presented 30 outfits in their collection. Their clothing line comprised resort wear, party wear and cocktail. From kaftans to saris and jackets the range was varied and colorful. The clothes were embellished with stone and bead work, which were done with hand embroidery. Former Miss India and Bollywood actress Sarah Jane was the show stopper. Designer Pria Kataaria Puri showcased a unique and amazing collection of resort wear. She used Italian fabrics and light weight silk. The colors in her collection transported the audience to a fairy land. Shades of white, red, green and blue did the magic. Actress Mahima Chaudhary walked the ramp in a lovely and graceful black sari. Swapnil Shinde’s collection had gowns and dresses with different drapes and was adorned with beautiful and unique huge red roses. Inspired from the craftsmanship of Maharashtra, he used fabrics like georgette and chiffon.

Neeta Lulla presented the grand finale. The line included churidars, kurtis, gowns and saris in dominating shades of white, with a romantic feel with free flowing fabrics in form and style with strong influences of the 1920s. Fabrics Shruti Hassan walked the ramp in a gorgeous white outfit.

Over the years, the Bangalore Fashion Week has become a leading trade exhibition for the fashion industry in India. The event was exclusively designed to promote and showcase the Bangalore fashion industry to the global fashion world. The fourth edition also had its share of lifestyle parties, after-hour parties, designer product exhibits et al. It offered an opportunity for retailers, boutique owners, potential retailers and investors wanting to get into the fashion business.
