Mumbai-based Detco Group, a leading supplier of readymade garments to retail chains like Shoppers Stop, Aditya Birla Retail, Star Bazaar, Reliance Retail and Pantaloons, is set to tap the menswear segment with its maiden brand Torso Cult.

Currently, Torso Cult has only men’s casual wear shirts. By next year they plan to be out with T-shirts and accessories.  With the target segment being the youth, accessories will be anything associated with casuals like caps, scarves, belts, wristbands etc.  The brand also plans to launch denims two years down the line.

Deepesh Ranka, MD, Torso Cult says, “One of the core reasons for venturing into the menswear segment was because we have been in this business for about 30 years and have learnt the market. We have been working only with menswear right from processing to garmenting to exports. Putting together our extensive knowledge and financial strength we launched Torso Cult. Cult is a following or a belief and as the name suggests we want people to follow our brand and our fashion.”

Detco Textiles, which has been supplying men’s shirts and tops and night dresses for ladies to private labels across West Asia, Dubai and Panama through its group company Deepesh Exports, will now enter these markets with its brand Torso Cult as well. “We are already in negotiations with our export customers, whom we have been working with since the last 15 years. We will export to the Middle East and Gulf starting this year and probably might think about venturing into Europe and the US next year,” avows Ranka. Detco is already present in Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia and Canada.

In the domestic market, the group is available in more than 100 stores pan-India. By the end of this fiscal, they plan to have 450 to 500 MBOs. Ranka adds, “We do not have EBOs right now but plan to start 20 EBOs in the next two years. Of these, seven or eight will come up next year and 12 in the following year. In Mumbai, we will be present in all leading MBOs but not in large formats as of now. We will be present in MBOs across all Tier I, II and III cities. As for EBOs, we will be mostly looking at Tier I cities, initially and slowly go to Tier II.”

With their production unit at Tarapur, their capacity for processing and manufacturing is about 125,000 mts. of fabric a day. “We will be looking to expand that to 1,75,000 mts. of fabric a day by October end. As far as the manufacturing and garment capacity are concerned, we are already doing 50,000 pieces a month in exports,” explains Ranka.  With the company looking at a target of Rs 50 crores
in the next three years for the brand, the future definitely looks bullish.
