“Children's apparel is a market that is growing rapidly today,” opines Lakhani adding, “Trends are fast changing. Earlier most people preferred buying functional kids' apparel rather than branded ones. This trend is gradually changing and the market for branded kids’ clothing is growing. And rising media exposure, high disposable income of the parents, peer pressure, growing fashion and brand consciousness among children are together driving the growth of this category in India.”
The kids’ clothing market, according to him was pegged at Rs 37,300 crores in 2012 and will reach a market size of Rs 80,000 crores in 2015. Gini & Jony product range for boys bermuda, bermuda set, boxer shorts, jeans, knits jacket, polo, sando, shirts, shorts, trousers, T-shirts and woven jackets and for girls, it has dresses, hot shorts, jeans, jump suit, knits top, legging, peddle pushers, skirts, trousers, tunics and woven tops. “Soon we are looking at adding accessories like shoes and watches to our range,” Lakhani explains.
For the current Spring/Summer 2013 neon is a major influencing colour. “With colors ranging from neon red, neon green, neon blue, neon pink and neon purple and floral prints in chiffon and georgette fabrics are part of the Gini & Jony dresses for girls through the season. The color-blocking trend is one of the most wearable looks coming up this season. The Bohemian look has been popular for several seasons and shows no signs of falling out of favor. Tie dye seems to be still a popular choice among print lovers and will be seen through the season. Stylized denim washes and an array of prints and fabrics will be the highlight for boys’ clothing,” highlights Lakhani.
