The launch of 9th India International Textile Machinery Exhibition 2012 (India-ITME) was held at hotel Taj, Mumbai recently. ITME is the largest textile machinery exhibition in India. ITME Society, sponsored by five major Indian textile and textile

engineering associations, organises this mega event once in every four years. It is most sought after event for textile technology and machinery across the world. The mega exhibition is designed to provide a complete solution for the textile and the textile engineering sector whether it is machinery, accessory, new products or an innovative idea ready for commercialisation.

Kishore Biyani, MD, Pantaloon Retail, said, “India is self reliant in the textile sector, from growing raw material to spinning and creating value added products in the textile sector. Our textile products have earned accolades from international markets and are respected for quality across the globe. This is an excellent initiative from India ITME. I am honoured to be a part of India ITME 2012 launch.” He emphasized that the Indian textile industry needs to look at the big picture and needs to think big.

“The textile industry in India is an age-old industry and once again India is emerging as clothier to the world next only to China. The importance of textiles in the Indian economy can be judged from the fact that it is the second largest employer, contributing almost 40 per cent to India’s export basket and is poised to increase its global share to 7 per cent from the current 4 per cent. Coupled with this, a strong domestic market size and the emergence of newer applications like home furnishing and technical textiles will once again make textile and clothing sector a sunshine sector,” explained R.S. Bachkaniwala, Chairman, India ITME Society. He further stated that the prime objective of organising the ITME 2012 is for showcasing new technology and innovations in textile engineering from the world over under one roof, to encourage investments and business collaboration with Indian textile engineering companies, to present new market opportunities in India and neighbouring countries and act as a catalyst to the textiles and textile engineering industry and to provide an exclusive business atmosphere for the textile engineering sector with world class companies exhibiting their technology. India ITME Society is making extra efforts to encourage small and medium enterprises in India to participate in this business event to enable them to expand their opportunities and also enter the export market.

India ITME Society is also moving forward and stepping into a new venture of creating a world-class exhibition cum convention centre in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This exhibition cum convention centre will be located at Gujarat International Finance Tech city (GIFT). The facility would be hosting various domestic and international exhibitions and conventions for various products and services.

The India International Textile Machinery Exhibitions Society (India ITME Society) established in 1980 is a non-profit organisation serving the textile engineering industry and the textile industry through international exhibitions. India ITME is sponsored and promoted by the Textile Machinery Manufacturers' Association (India), Indian Textile Accessories & Machinery Manufacturers' Association, Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, Textile Association of India and the Bureau of Indian Standards.
