With the women’s segment in India rapidly moving from ethnic to casual western dressing, Turbo Retail, well known for its brand Juelle for women in the age-group of 16 to 30 years, is expanding to become a complete casual wear brand.

The target is to achieve this within a year’s time. The company will be introducing bottom wear such as jeans, capris and trousers by winter 2011, adding to its existing portfolio of T-shirts and long tunics for summer and sweat-shirts, jacket, coats and sweaters for winter. Turbo Retail was established in 2009 with a vision to launch and promote casual wear for young women with its brand Juelle. “In our very first year, last year we touched Rs 2 crores. This year we are aiming for Rs 8 crores -- a fourfold increase and we intend to maintain this pace. We have a strong network of agents throughout India”. The brand covers about 450 premium MBOs throughout India. For every state they have an agent network. And now, the brand is thinking of opening EBOs. “But EBOs are not our priority since they demand a brand to be complete in all its segments,” says Guneet Singh, Director, Turbo Retail.

With
winter sales accounting for 70 to 75 per cent of their turnover, the company’s product line of jackets and coats are doing well. Of course, sweaters have a higher growth rate with sales starting pre winter and considered to be more of a fashion statement than jackets. Based in Ludhiana, the home of the woolen and hosiery industry, the company is constantly on its toes to keep abreast with competitors.

“Long jackets with cotton concepts are currently in. Jackets in a combination of woolen sweater mix and match is also doing well. A cotton and the woolen mix and match jacket is a hot selling item. For women this year we have many new colors,” says Japneet Singh, Creative Director, Turbo Retail. “Sweaters are also not confined to winters and the flat knit industry is doing well even in summers. We are doing a flat knit range with purely half sleeve, 14 gauge materials in fine counts and light weight. Sweater designs have changed drastically as earlier they were the simpler ones with the plain V neck concept with a cardigan look but now there are long sweaters with the jacquard look in prints and workmanship,” he adds.

Turbo Retail’s summer range comprises of T-shirts, tops, tunics and long dresses using cotton, cotton modal, viscose lycra and viscose cotton blends, the price range varying from Rs 395 to Rs 995; whereas in winter the company specializes in sweat shirts, cotton sweaters, woolen & wool blend sweaters/dresses, jackets & coats in the priced from Rs 695 onwards.
