With a steady growth of 20 percent per annum, junior wear brand Ocean, which offers products for kids in the age group one to four years and 4 to 14 years, is planning to expand its product portfolio.

Ocean is spreading out with new products

“We
are looking at expanding our product categories by adding hosiery bottom wear. And at some point in the future, we will add upper wear like shirts and T-shirts to our range. We will also start with jackets,” explains Tushar Trevadia, Director, Ocean International. Retail expansion through e-commerce and entry into large format stores is also on the cards.

With a presence in 1,000 MBOs across India like Pothys, R&KV, the company is planning to strenthen its hold in territories like Madhya Pradesh and Assam. “We are in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Himachal, Jharkhand, Haryana and even Pondicherry, and Andaman & Nicobar,” says Trevadia, elaborating on their retail network.

The brand now plans to target large format stores. “We are also in discussions with some online retailers and in six months time we should be there,” he adds.

Trevadia feels the denim movement has slowed down and now the trend is more towards coloured trousers like maroon, rust and khaki. “These have blast washes. We have a collection of comfort and slim fits. Stretch is used in comfort fit to the extent of 20 to 30 percent. But in slim fits, stretch is around 100 percent,” explains Trevadia.

Ocean was launched in 1985 with nylon half pants. Later it started making cotton full pants and three fourths. Talking about the current product portfolio, Trevadia says, “We do bottom wear for boys between 4 to 14 years and have a funky designer range for children between one to four years of age. For both the segments, we have cotton trousers and denim.”

At Ocean, utmost care is taken to design and manufacture clothes that allow children to be comfortable and free. Quality fabrics from leading mills, safe and reliable imported accessories, cozy and comfortable fits ensure that each product matches international quality standards. The company has the capacity of producing 50,000 pieces per month.
