Ankur Exports, makers of the brand Klix are all set to come up with their new units for production at Mumbai. The unit will be functional by the first week of April. The new capacity is specifically for denims, especially fashion denims. The machinery has been wholly imported and they

plan to start with a small capacity of half a million pieces a year.

Launched in 2003, Klix started with very basic products — plains, casuals, khakis, chinos and denims. The clothes were marketed in the south. They now plan to have a cargo range that would be purely functional. Ankur Gadia, Director, Ankur Exports elucidates, “Earlier cargos used to be a full segment but now it would be a part of the denim range. We will have four to six designs. In terms of leisure wear there are youngsters who want cargos. So that market exists. If you have an MBO, you should have all the products possible.” The brand is in 350 to 400 MBOs all over India and is also doing private labels. After a year, they plan to start EBOs in cities where they are already present like Mumbai, Chennai, and cities in Punjab. “Initially we will target 30 to 40 stores. Our EBOs will be 600 to 800 sq. ft. The first 12 to 15 stores will be company-owned,” says Gadia. Currently present in 12 states, the company also plans to expand to another six states including West Bengal and the northeast.

Klix’s product range primarily is casual bottom wear. Since cargos went out of fashion a year back, they now plan to give something new this autumn/winter. Apart from coming up with designs for this autumn/winter, the company is already in the process of planning for its next spring/summer collection. “We plan to come out with a range in denims for the Indian woman in our next spring/summer collection. We will start with denim bottom wear for women. The line will be very simple and range from Rs 795 to Rs 995,” states Gadia.

On the latest trends in the market Gadia says that stretch seems to be the rage as it provides ultimate comfort. “The comfort is unparalleled. There’s no problem of fit since its body hugging and is here to stay for a long time. Currently, it’s the subtle look, deep colors that’s in vogue. In terms of washes it’s the merged look. Right now permanent wrinkles have reduced and various types of whiskers and regular washes are in,” concludes Gadia.
