LFW Winter/Festive ’10 woos Mumbaikars with glamour

Mumbai fashionistas can’t stop raving about the just concluded Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive ’10 where top designers from India lured audiences with their creativity. The five-day gala showcased collections of 74 designers including Manish Arora,

Ritu Kumar, Anita Dongre, Manish Malhotra, Neeta Lulla, Satya Paul, Troy Costa among others. The grand finale was by Malini Ramani.  

New talent took centrestage at the opening show on the very first day. From futuristic designs to collections inspired by human emotions, there were varied designs, approaches and colors put together by six young and upcoming designers. Adding the glamour to the show was Bollywood star Mallika Sherawat. Manish Arora's concluding show on the first day set glamour quotient high for the coming shows. With bold colors, abstract shapes, contemporary designs and a heady mix of wonderful music, his show was inspired by the period of art decor with a contemporary twist.

Veteran designers Ritu Kumar and Babita Malkani showcased their varied collections on the second day. Malkani portrayed a distinct urban sense of styling, and a high level of comfort with international fabric and styles. The colors and textures used in her collections were inspired by the scenic landscape of Kabadokia in Turkey. Model-turned-actress Pooja Batra was the showstopper flaunting Malkani’s most elegant design. Ace designer Ritu Kumar revealed her spring/summer collection which had a modern twist with vintage styling and fabrics.

Bollywood’s superstar Amitabh Bachchan attended the show of the young designer Nachiket Barve on the third day of the gala. Barve, known for his beautiful appliqués and textures with stylish designs, introduced dyeing techniques, embroidery, cut work and appliqués through his beautifully made collection that included some stylish saris as well. On the same day Bollywood’s upcoming star Shruti Haasan walked the ramp for designer Satya Paul. Dressed in a blue silk sari with a border and long sleeved black net choli, Haasan’s dress was a part of the art of tarot collection.

Designer Swapnil Shinde’s ensemble on the fourth day had a line of flouncy skirts, sari style dresses and evening gowns embellished with ghungroos. While Narendra Kumar's Killer Nari collection for Killer Jeans had Sonakshi Sinha as showstopper. The collection had sporty jackets, distressed and shredded jeans and crushed shorts for men, and wrapped jersey dresses, and very skinny jeans for women. Manish Malhotra concluded the day but with celebs from the B-town.

Celebrated designer Malini Ramani presented her gypsy collection, filled with energy, color, music and dance, making for an extravagant finale. Inspired by her journeys in different parts of the world, Malini's collection on the concluding day was a celebration of color and textures. The clothes were vibrant, feminine and bohemian. From building relationships with customers to getting good business for the designers the Lakme Fashion Week clinched good business this season.
