Germany-based women’s fashion label Marc Cain is bullish on its India marketing strategy. It plans to make in-roads into metros like Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore after establishing its presence though two exclusive stores in Mumbai.

Elaborating on their plans, Punit Agarwal, Owner of Marc Cain franchise stores in India and UAE says, “We have two stores in Mumbai currently – one in Juhu and the other in Bandra. We plan to expand our footprint to other metros with an estimated investment of Rs 3-4 crore. So we have set aside Rs 20 crores for the five stores. We expect sales worth Rs 5-6 crore within the first years for every store. We are also eyeing international markets like Kuwait and Qatar to expand operations.”

Agarwal
says the Indian fashion industry was at a nascent stage when Marc Cain first set foot in India in 2007. There was a huge gap between a high-end Louis Vuitton and a brand like Mango, therefore they saw the need to bridge the gap and give them more options to satisfy their fashion appetite. Marc Cain caters to the luxury style divas within an affordable price range starting from Rs 5,000 to Rs 35,000 and above. The unique and cross- styled, sensuous line includes dresses, blazers, trousers, sportswear, jerseys, skirts, denims, blouses, accessories, caps, boots, bags ,laces, flounces, trench coats, scarves, ringlets, stripes and so on.

Founded by its Managing Director Helmut Schlotterer in 1973, the worldwide operating business is managed from its headquarters in Bodelshausen, Germany. In 2009 and 2010 about €36 million were invested in a completely new production and administration building with state-of the- art furnishings and machines. The company employs more than 700 people in Germany alone and had a turnover of 184 million euros (US$ 230 million or Rs 1,310 crores) in 2012. Eastern Europe has a work force of more than 2000 people employed in the ready-made clothing sector. Both Marc Cain collections are distinguished by the highest demand placed on design, quality and materials.

“The credo of Marc Cain sets the highest standards for design, quality, materials, the latest production techniques and correct fit. The innovative spirit and distinctiveness of Marc Cain’s product lines are based on the German production facility. Particular emphasis is placed on the highly modern knitting workshop, the textile machinery and the print shop. Marc Cain also devotes great attention to research and development,” Agarwal explains.
