Monte Carlo makes its Autumn/Winter statement

Monte Carlo, the premium garment brand from the house of Oswal Woollen Mills is currently on an expansion mode, having unveiled its new autumn/winter ’10 collection in. The new menswear section in this collection now has a wide range of formal,

semiformal, and casuals which includes sleeveless and full sleeves jackets, formal suits and blazers/coats as well as woven and knitted tracksuits. The color palette includes neutral and muted shades of grays, browns, blacks, with a touch of purple and blues mainly in the sportswear collection. Also, this time there are more varieties of suits in new textures and designs under the premium sub-brand platinum collection called Canterbury and a new muffler range has been added to the segment.

The women’s wear range in this collection features trendy silhouettes to long fashionable tunic for all age groups in a variety of colors, styles, ornamentation and a mix and match of wool and wool blends with metallic yarns to give a subdued shine. The classic collection has a color range from dull grays to deep browns and wines, with black being the most popular and available in more than 30 per cent of the styles. Added to the collection are also some short coats in new developed yarns for a chunky look as well as an exotic range of shawls and stoles which includes plain, embroided, printed, digital prints and Jamavars.

For the urban professional youths, there is also a 100% cotton fresh flat knit collection in trendy stripes and contemporary patterns which are further embellished with embroideries and print. There are innovative style designs with different necks polo-plackets, like ‘U’ and ‘V’, double layered and zippered fronts among others.

“We are undoubtedly the No. 1 in winter wear and in summer wear we are No 1 in terms T-shirts, this is as per the ORG Data. As part of trying to be a complete lifestyle brand, we have introduced a kidswear range in our collection with sweaters, jackets, T-shirts and very soon will also be introducing denims, causal trousers and to complete this category,” says Sandeep Jain, Executive Director, of Oswal Woolen Mills. “Since our inception we have established ourselves as one of the premium brands in winter wear. From the last three years we are growing at the rate of 40 per cent per annum in our EBO network. Currently we have 110 EBOs and have lined up 10-15 more stores in North India which are progressing very fast,” he avers. The special cities which are under this plan are Amritsar and cities in Haryana among others. They also have a network of over 800 MBO’s and are present in Shoppers Stop and Planet Fashion. As regards city wise retail approach they are looking at Tier I-II cities for expansion.


With a production base in Ludhiana with a capacity of 4 million units, the Monte Carlo brand targets the upper middle and premium segment of customers. The company’s current turnover is around Rs 250 crores annually and it is expecting another 30 per cent growth this year. Having achieved excellence in its winterwear range, the company is now concentrating on its summer range for both men and women.
