Now women’s jeans wear from Camaro

Bhawarlal Alok Kumar, makers of the brand Camaro, a men’s casual brand that mainly makes denims, casual trousers and T-shirts is getting ready with its spring/summer ’11 collection. On their agenda is launching women’s jeans. As R K Patawari, Director, Bhawarlal Alok Kumar

says, “Creating a segment for women’s denims is a tad difficult than creating one for men. Fit is an important issue as far as denims for women are concerned. Coming out with the right fit to suit different segments of the market is very difficult. Secondly, fashion in women fades out fast. But we plan to erase the bottlenecks soon and plan to do something for women in denims in our spring/summer 2011 collection.”

 

Camaro is more a regional brand from eastern India with a foothold in Mumbai. Now it plans to foray into Uttar Pradesh. They recently started entering eastern UP with their spring/summer collection and will soon be expanding into the western part of the state. The aim is to fully establish themselves by autumn/winter.

Meanwhile the company has also started importing some products. “We may get into imports of knitwear fabrics. It would take a year for knitwear to get settled and once we are done with it we will get into accessories like belts and wallets. We are also going to import a select range of denim garments directly from China. Around 20 per cent of denims will be imported and will be priced between Rs 1,300 to 1,800,” says Patawari.

The 16-year-old company started making T-shirts one-and-a-half years ago. At the moment they sell around three to three-and-a-half lakh T shirts in a year. “The target this fiscal is to sell five lakh T-shirts,” Patawari opines. “For autumn/winter ’10 we see a lot of scope and as T-shirts are new additions to our brand, we believe we should grow by not less than 25 per cent. If T-shirts grow at 25 per cent, there should be a growth of 40 per cent in knitwear,” he adds. The brand is present in 840 MBOs at present and plans to enter selected large formats like Shoppers Stop. “It’s difficult to categorize our products because what sells in Mumbai doesn’t sell 200 kms outside the metro,” he explains. They have around 850 retailers across UP, Bihar, West Bengal, Orissa, Assam and all the seven northeastern states.
