“What started as a passion has now taken over my profession completely. I would call it my passionate profession,” opines Bangalore-based men’s wear designer Paresh Lamba, adding, “I actually learnt shoe styling and designing and did it for a bit,

until clothes took over completely.”

Stepping
beyond India

On the retail front, the designer has a flagship store in Bangalore, and sells through Personna in Hyderabad. “We are now looking at adding a store in Mumbai and Delhi. And have appointed an agent for the Middle East region as well. I showed my collection in Dubai in June and got a great response,” Lamba says.

Lamba has always paid keen attention to his own dressing. “I came to Bangalore in 1989, and was exposed to South India for the first time. Those days, Bangalore was not anywhere close to what it is today. I was surprised at what I saw and fell in love with the city. The city had some amazing women who would always be impeccably turned out, but they would always be followed by men, who were a complete fashion disaster. That is when I realized the potential in this part of the country and set myself up here as a men’s designer,” elaborates Lamba.

Over the years, the designer has created a niche as a men’s designer. “Today, the who’s who of not only my city but also the country and many big international names wear my label and swear by it,” avers Lamba.

Latest collections

The forthcoming Autumn/Winter season will be huge in terms of colours, textures and embellishments for the designer. Elaborating on the season’s best, Lamba says, “I will be using a lot of texturing on celebratory fabrics like velvet, silks and satins, which give the added feel of luxury. It will be about opulence this wedding season, and my creations are going to reflect it.”

The latest fashion trend is neon. Colours are huge and neon colours are even bigger. Silhouettes are deconstructed and slimmer. Lamba’s product range encompasses Indian – sherwanis, kurta, pathanis and bandis, Western designs consist of suits, jackets, overcoats, shirts, trousers and Indo westerns.

‘Sartorial Collezioni’, Paresh Lamba’s newest collection, has been designed in keeping with the celebratory mode of his 15 years in the fashion world. It rejoices the power of inspiration in the art of fashion, a trait held in high esteem by a culture that believes in the celebration of life itself.
