For kids’ wear brand Spark, business last season was good. The company was able to deliver 75 percent orders. “The market was slow but the mood was upbeat,” says Bharat Shah, Director, Spark Creation. About the oncoming season he goes on to say, “Retailers are

buying just the amount they need, nothing more or less. So if you manufacture what the market needs, you can function. We keep our targets realistic. We aim for a 50 percent growth every year.”

On the retail front, the brand aims to expand to untapped regions within the country apart from exploring new export destinations.

Overseas
expansion on cards

Spark is present in more than 1,000 MBOs around India, apart from fashion stores and corporate group stores. “We enjoy good market share in small cities like Amritsar, Ludhiana, Udaipur, Kanpur, Jaipur, Cochin, Coimbatore and Calicut. We are present in all major metros as well. Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh are states where we have already entered. Spark is also supplied to major large format stores. With the mall culture fast catching up everywhere, business share from the large format stores is on the rise,” explains Shah.

Spark has also made inroads in the competitive UAE market as well as in some other countries of the Gulf with good results. Now the company is looking at moving to the Far East and Europe. The brand is also present on a few third-party e-commerce platforms.

A vast product range for kids

Spark caters to the needs of children from one year to 14 years of age. The wide range includes fashion and basic T-shirts, cargos, trousers and lowers and separates. It also includes infant sets, trouser sets, textile sets, denim sets and three piece sets.

Talking about the kids’ wear market, Shah says, “Though kids are the end customers, parents are major influencers in the buying process. They like to have all options available during purchase. This makes it increasingly important to provide a variety under one umbrella. We are one of the few brands which offers customers such a wide variety of options.”

A joint family business, the company is a leading manufacturer and exporter of kids’ wear from central India. It began its journey in 1983. “Over the years, Spark has continuously been expanding the geographical span of its business and the impeccable quality standards have helped us to overcome every barrier, if any existed,” avers Shah.
