Though launched just four years back, kids’ wear label Toonz has spread its wings through 46 stores across India. Out of these 35 stores are in south India in places like Bangalore, Kochi, Hyderabad among others and 10 stores are in north India including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The company now plans to step into Mumbai and Pune.

New stores in the pipeline

“We have one store in Pune and are about to open four to five stores in Mumbai. Catering to the 0–12 years age-group, Toonz offers everything for kids under one roof.

From basic items like milk bottle to T-shirt, toys and other necessary items,” explains Deepak Pareek, Head Sales, Toonz.

The company’s current turnover is Rs 70–80 crores and it is aiming to achieve Rs 150 crores by the end of this year. Plans are afoot to launch around 200 stores in India in the next 5 years.

New collections

The brand recently introduced a sports collection inspired by FIFA World Cup along with its Spring/Summer range. “If you compare our designs with international brands, you will see that our products are on par with them in quality but at a lower price range. Basic T-shirts start from Rs 199 to Rs 500, denim from Rs 799 to Rs 1,299. Other label under Toonz called Wowmom caters to 0 to 3 years and Superyoung caters to 3 to 12 years,” states Pareek.

The brand is continuously innovating with quality and design every three to four months. It is also focusing on incorporating cartoon characters in its collection. Toonz has launched party wear dresses while new collections are planned according to the season and major events.

Expanding retail horizon

Elaborating on retail plans Pareek says, “We have plans to expand our network by opening 100 stores by the end of this financial year in Mumbai, Pune, Nasik and Tier II, III cities such as Allahabad, Lucknow and Meerut, among others.”

The company has used a unique technology in which even after washing the product 100 times, the colour will not fade. “Usually the colour tends to fade after two to three washes but in the Superyoung range, this technology has been used and people are happy and satisfied with the product. Within a year, we plan to introduce an organic range too,” avers Pareek.
