While Indian designers are busy charting out global plans, more and more international celebs are taking to Indian designs. Their fascination for the typical Indian delicate embroideries, zardozi designs and gota work, unique motifs, and the

enormous variety of fabrics and shades have made them don the ethnic look. From Hollywood actors and actresses to top global models have made appearances at red carpets evebts, award ceremonies and social dos in creations by Indian designers.

The
year 2012 started off with Oprah Winfrey, who visited India in January and, got master couturier Tarun Tahiliani to create a sari for her. Tahiliani dressed her in a beautiful bright orange and golden Kanjeevaram silk brocade sari, embellished with gota work. He combined the nine-yard fabric with a corset blouse with zardosi embroidery.

Burlesque star Dita Von Teese made her maiden appearance in India at New Delhi’s The Leela Palace in a figure hugging black lace sari designed by none other than ace couturiers Shivan and Narresh. The designer duo accessorised her sari-look for the evening with the traditional teeka and gem-studded earrings. Besides this ensemble, Shivan and Narresh sketched two other looks, both in black -- one a belted black sari with an elegant silver clutch and brooch, and another georgette sari with large golden leaf motifs.

Later in the year, Judi Dench wore her favourite designer duo, Abu-Sandeep’s creation to London Evening Standard Theatre Awards on November 25. A long powder-grey coat with intricate white chikankari work in floral patterns teamed with cigarette pants and plain black stilettos completed the look for the British icon.

Then British supermodel Naomi Campbell decided to throw a traditional Indian party for her billionaire boyfriend, Vladimir Doronin’s 50th birthday in Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort. Celebrating the ‘Royal India’ theme, she wore two Manish Malhotra creations -- one, a white sari with bright orange and pink border to the star-studded brunch and the other, an anarkali kurta from his Mijwan collection. She was joined by close friends, Kate Moss, Demi Moore and Karolina Kurkova later in the evening, all three dazzling in ethnic Indian dresses styled by the designer. While Moss chose a beige and ivory coloured lehenga with detailed Kashmiri embroidery, Moore picked up a lehenga with red and green border with elaborate zari work.

Last but not the least, it was Paris Hilton, who opened the show for Falguni and Shane at the Indian Resort Fashion Week 2012 in Goa this November, wore a glittering gown reflecting colours of the sea. The long list surely goes on to prove the popularity Indian designers are gaining beyond Indian shores.
