Designer Debarun presented a collection named ‘Omnipresent’ at the Lakme Fashion Week. The show started with a Manipuri performance dancer Rinku Dutt followed by Richa Sharma, an active social worker and winner of the Mrs International Pageant ( 2011-2012) commencing the show. To showcase the feeling of Omnipresent in our lives, the designer takes inspiration from surface texturing and embellishments of iznik tiles of turkey. Turkish ceramics has this distinct colour of cobalt-blue and the serene presence of divinity. This divinity has been brought to life with prints and embroidery. “Along with the colour blue that runs throughout my entire collection a reminder of the presence of the almighty, I have also used beige and black shades that symbolize depth. I have used natural fabrics like the rich hand woven fabrics of Bhagalpur, Tassar, matka, katan and monga and silk,” opines Debarun.
The silhouettes were fusion of Indian, flared and layered skirts, dhoti inspired skirt, high collared tops, pleated pants, saris for women. Men’s wear had this long Indian sherwani look, with flair, semi-transparent shirt kurta with draw string pants. The look is layered with prints, embellishments and accessories. The show ended with actor Richa Chadha as his showstopper graciously walking down the runway in a beautiful blue layered skirt with velvet embroidered jacket and belt.
With 15 years of experience, spanning across national and international markets, Debarun has moved from being an individual to a brand in the fashion industry. An alumnus of London College of Fashion, he has diverse experience across designing, styling, branding, merchandising, production and management having worked for international names like Ben Da Lisi, Alexandra Mc Queen and Ungaro. Together with his brand Debarun launched in 2007, he also designs for some of the biggest textile design studios in London and New York.
