Designer James Ferreira using whites as dominant shade in his collection along with feminine pinks and pleasant greens presented his ‘Ganesha Frolicking with Cherubs’ on Day Two of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013. Taking inspiration from the paintings of renowned textile artist Bhamini Subramaniam, Ferreira put together a pristine line of white garments.

His Spring/Summer range consisted of loose white slip-on dresses in soothing fabrics such as soft cotton voile, cotton satin, crepe de chine and silk jerseys were moulded into modern silhouettes, especially to appeal the modern Indian women. Separating the white and floral collection were a few black and white striped dresses and short skirts with surface gold embellishments for ideal cocktail summer evenings.

The collection saw white flair dresses printed with soft hues of lavender and pink flower paintings, long dress with tail hems and sheer sleeves carefully balancing the rose appliques near the waist, long white dress that folds up like a dhoti near the knee printed with Ganesha painting on one side, white jumpsuits with patchwork and floral appliques. Teamed with off-white heels strapped around the ankles and poker straight hair, completed the neat look.

With a western looking collection that addressed an Indian audience, the show ended with a jig on Devendra Banhart’s ‘Feel just like a child’, by the designer himself.
