With Indian men upping their style quotient, more and more designers are experimenting with their clothes. One such designer is Sanjay Hingu. At the Lakmé Fashion Week summer/resort ’11 he dazzled viewers with stylishly cut jackets, body-fitting trousers and the one button silhouette, cut close to the body. His collection were a proof that men’s apparel needn’t be severe or dull but could be just as flashy as women’s wear. Hingu displayed a riot of pastel colors like powder blue, beige, grey, mustard and mid brown in checks and embroidery.

Suits were printed and pants were embossed. The zippered blousons too were skin tight to match the trousers. Printed insets on the back and front or slashed at the yoke were the leitmotif of the collection. Fabrics ranged from cotton to linen and brocade for cool summer comfort. Some of the highlights of the show were the beige checked high peak lapel jacket, grey jacket with vertical rows of floral embroidery, the beige jacket teamed with grey batik trousers, and the Bermudas worn with a paneled two vent jacket with brocade and solids teamed with black stockings. The all-over prints for the complete suits were minute and in subdued tones. This is men’s wear with just the right dose of attitude and flair. And Hingu has injected panache into the male wardrobe.
