ICW: Modi’s journey back in time

Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut walked the ramp for Anju Modi on the second day of India Couture Week. The actress looked stunning in a heavily embroidered black lehanga-choli, as she strutted for Modi’s bridal collection titled ‘Manikarnika’. Modi’s line depicted a woman of the past, reborn in the present. Manikarnika is a journey, back in time and now. The color palette was earthy, sepia tones like sand, old rose reminiscent of the centuries past. The rich jewel tones of burgundy, ruby, emerald, added the plushness of luxury. The embroideries were derived from the architecture, with the paintings of the Ajanta-Ellora caves as perfect muses to the artwork and details.
An essential adornment in Indian weddings for centuries, designer Anju Modi picked ethnic gold jewellery from Shree Raj Mahal Jewelers for her show on the second day of the Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers India Couture Week 2014. Heavy bridal chokers, kadas in innovative designs and earrings in ethnic and traditional gold showcased the skill of Indian craftsmanship and spoke of the opulence of Indian weddings. The designer artistically paired neckpieces around the models hair, and around the waist as kamarbandh showcasing new ways of accessorizing the look with traditional jewellery.
