Designer Manish Malhotra presented his extravagant, exquisite bridal collection at the Delhi Couture Week. Dressed in a beautiful beige gold lehenga-choli with champagne embroidery, Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif made a striking and sizzling appearance on the ramp.

The show kicked off with a short two-and-a-half minute film directed by the designer himself. The 20-piece couture was vintage and took the audiences back to the 60’s era. Malhotra has taken forward his fascination with Kashmir from Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2011 to DCW 2012 as he incorporated intricate tilla and zari work in his collection. He also played with beads and Swarovski elements.

Commenting on the motivation behind his creation, he said, “I have drawn inspiration from the classic styles of the 1960’s and the 1970’s of India. The collection is soft, elegant and vintage, reminiscent of the timeless beauties of the era.”

Actor Vidyut Jamwal opened the show in a front open, fully embroidered tunic that he wore with gold pajamas and black tie-up shoes with a zari-encrusted heel. With an inspiration dating back to the 60s and 70s, there were high necks, opulent zari lehengas covered with a veil of net with a trail and fully embroidered scarlet-coloured tunics for men.

Sticking to his favourite – layering, Malhotra added geometric gold motifs and tasselled ends to a colour palette that had fuchsia, electric crimson, raspberry and rose showcasing his mastery in traditional India costumes. Apart from the show-stopper Katrina Kaif, Malhotra displayed a galaxy of star power at the PCJ Couture Week, with the front row audience having Suzanne Roshan, Shabana Azmi, Karan Johar, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, Sheetal Mafatlal and director Madhur Bhandarkar to applause for him.
