Gandhi topi, khadi and patriotism was the flavor of veteran designer James Ferreira’s spring/summer 2012 collection. Having made his models dance on popular item song Sheila ki jawaani previously, this time the Mumbai-based designer opted for patriotic songs at the recent Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week spring/summer. Of course, khadi and Gandhi caps were the stars of his spring/summer collection. It had a mix of khadi handwoven in bright shades of orange, lime green and fuchsia. The collection had both Indian and western wear.

Ferreira feels it's high time we bring Indian khadi back in fashion. Khadi is the most beautiful fabric and has been highly disregarded in modern times. He tried to give the fabric a new life through his collection. It had a variety of garments from tunics, jackets, short dresses, skirts, jumpsuits to saris, kurtis with modern churidars and dhotis. The fabrics included Italian georgettes, satin, organza and chiffons blended with khadi.

The models walked the ramp wearing Gandhi topis while patriotic songs like "Mere desh ki dharti", "Apni azadi ko hum", Mera rang de basanti chola", "Yeh desh hai veer jawano ka" and "Aae mere vatan ke logon" were being played in the backdrop.
