Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld brought India into focus at the house’s Paris-Bombay-themed fashion show earlier this week. The India-themed dinner party that doubled up as runway, at the Metiers d'Art show in Paris witnessed model sashaying down flaunting Indian designs. The clothes, with their embroidered pearls and matte gold and silver detail, were spectacular in a fairy-tale kind of way. The venue was the Grand Palais in Paris, where guests were seated at extravagant banquet tables, between which ran the runway. Sumptous dishes were served by waiters throughout the show as models sashayed down in garments that were reflective of Indian tradition, mixed in with Chanel's trademark tweeds and pearls.

Unlike other fashion galas, where only champagne and starters are circulated, the dinner using gold-plated cutlery, was being served throughout the show. A metal track was positioned on the table between the runway as a silver train - sporting the Chanel logo. Models wore stunning embroidered fabrics and complementing accessories such as head-jewellery, turbans, ethnic leather sandals and pearls walked the ramp sporting the 2012 pre-fall collection. Lagerfeld is known to take inspiration from other countries to present the show differently. That’s why previous shows were rightly named Paris-Byzance, Paris-Shanghai and Paris-Moscow.
