Mijwan Show: All for a cause

For the third year in a row ‘Mijwan -- Sonnets in Fabric’ was held in Mumbai. The fashion extravaganza saw 30 top celebrities and 20 supermodels walk the ramp, showcasing the best of ethnic wear by designer Manish Malhotra.

It was Shabana Azmi and Malhotra’s collaborated effort on a fashion event to raise funds for the Mijwan Welfare Society, an NGO established by the former’s father, late poet Kaifi Azmi saw embroidery works done entirely by the girls of Mijwan. The Society works towards empowering the girl child in Mijwan, Azmi’s native village in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh.

Malhotra translated the work done by Mijwan girls into contemporary modern designs. Shabana Azmi and Namrata Goyal opened the evening and Nita Ambani walked for the cause with two little girls: Shabana’s niece Meghna and Babita from Mijwan.

The celebs on the runway included stars Priyanka Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha, Shraddha Kapoor, Prabhudeva, Ankita Shorey, Arjun Kapoor, Chirag Paswan, Chitrangada Singh, Dia Mirza, Imran Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Kalki Koechlin, Karan Johar, Kunal Kapoor, Malaika Arora Khan, Neha Dhupia, Parineeti Chopra, Prateik Babbar, Rohit Roy, Rohit Shetty, Sameera Reddy, Shahana Goswami, Shazanne Padamsee, Diana Penty and Olympic medallist Mary Kom.
