Indian born designer Naeem Khan presented his Spring/Summer 2013 preview at the Lincoln Center in New York recently. He chose to broaden his offerings by adding separates and day-wear in cotton sateen pants paired with a bustier, or a cashmere off-the-shoulder sweater, or a quilted trench in bright blue apart from the royal and shimmering red-carpet gowns, he is famous for.

Khan is a favourite of America’s First Lady Michelle Obama, who adorned his shimmery gold-and-silver creation as the first state-dinner dress, created waves among the audience with his latest collection. While models sashayed down the ramp in gorgeous gowns, the other wearable designs inspired by Wallis Simpson, The Duchess of Windsor, and Arabian nights in Morocco, offering embroidered caftans, sheath dresses, shift dresses, flouncy full skirts, and satin skinny pants in a palette of blue, coral, black, and cream wowed the viewers.

Khan founded his eponymous label ‘Naeem Khan’ in 2003, presenting his first collection at Olympus Fashion Week in 2005. His work is ornate, intricately detailed, and best known for red-carpet gowns employing handmade fabrics. The label is sold in more than 200 stores, including Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks Fifth Avenue. His designs have been worn by celebrities including Beyoncé, Carrie Underwood, Eva Longoria, Leighton Meester, and Brooke Shields.
