Designer Suneet Varma celebrating his silver jubilee of being a part of the Indian fashion industry. To mark the occasion, he recently presented a unique couture collection inspired by five extraordinary queens: Princess Niloufer of Hyderabad, Princess Durru Shehvar of Berar, Anita Delgado, Princess of Kapurthala, Maharani Bamba Duleep Singh of Lahore and Princess Esra of Hyderabad.

The princesses hailed from Europe and married Indian kings, which mixed Western fashion with Indian style. Varma’s designs are inspired by this style. He is known to blend strong design sensibilities with meticulous craftsmanship to create ethereal and sophisticated creations for today’s women. Speaking to the media, Varma said that over the years Indian clientele has changed and he was lucky to be one of the first in the field. “India has become a thriving and prosperous country. People love to dress and wear beautiful clothes. I am very fortunate that I got a head start from over everybody else 25 years ago,” he opined.

Born in 1964 in New Delhi, Varma went to London to study sculpting but later switched to fashion and did his graduation from the London College of Fashion. His association with some of the top international brands makes him a designer whose forte goes beyond an uni-dimensional profile. He was also the first Indian designer to design the interiors of the BMW 7 series.
