The second day of the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 saw a new set of designers. Gaurav Jai Gupta and Paromita Banerjee kickstarted the day with ensembles in meticulous cuts and detailing.

The first show titled ‘Moderate’ under Gupta’s label, ‘Akaaro’ celebrated a blend of cotton and silk. The designer presented a carefully crafted summer wear in more than 50 shades of steel grey and black. The collection, inspired by the attires of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity was sans any glitter, motifs or embroidery, however they had a perfect fusion of global style and Indian weaves. The range consisted of high-waist trousers with cropped linen tops or a plain crinkled black sari with sharp grey waistcoat.

Next in line was designer Paromita Banerjee, who presented a ‘Safed Rang Part 2’ line of designs inspired from her memories. Starting with gold and off-white chequered tunics, dresses, shrugs and cigarette pants layered with black-and-white small check weaves, Chinese collars, highlighted big pockets and sheer detailing were very much appreciated by the audience. Her other line created with organic fabrics and natural dyes was ruled by a variety of colours, Indian kalamkari, ikat weaves and tie-and-dye techniques.

The collection by designer Pia Pauro, was called ‘Zanzibar’. It gradually transcended from soft shades to louder notes inspired straight from Africa. The neon pinks and yellows combined with bright red, green and blues were a perfect choice for a bold line of resort wear. The line of ensembles included flowing shield dresses, sun dresses, tunics, flappers, jumpsuits and bikinis with African motifs and animal prints in cotton, silk and jersey.

And finally the renowned names in resort-wear fashion, designer duo Shivan and Narresh displayed a collection titled ‘Fontana’ that too inspiration by the slashed and stabbed canvases of Lucio Fontana. Models sashayed down the ramp wearing slashed trikinis, knotted dresses, wrap suits and cruise gowns with strategically placed cuts and drapes in a riot of shades of aqua blue, pink, yellow, orange along with black and white.
