The 22nd edition of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) Spring/Summer 2014, organised by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) kickstarted yesterday at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The young fashion director of acclaimed designer label Satya Paul, Masaba Gupta opened the extravaganza while unveiling the designer version of Tata Nano car.

Inspired by her quirky yet chic pop prints, the small car designed by Gupta is part of a new ad campaign that celebrates the spirit of young achievers. Young Bollywood beauty and Gupta’s friend, Alia Bhatt was the celebrity showstopper of the show. Wearing silk printed pink ensemble with black and white three-fourth sleeves matched with huge pink tie up heels, Bhatt sashayed down the ramp flaunting her cute look.

Gupta’s collection consisted of velvet, sheer and flowy designs in varied print styles. Continueing with her aim of making a traditional sari appeal to today’s youth, models on the ramp also showcased different ways of wearing saris. Some were teamed up with leggings and a few had pleated pallus majorly in cotton fabric. The Chandragupta prints with Banarasi embroidery added Indianness to Masaba's youthful collection.

Well-known designer Anupama Dayal of Anupamma too presented her ‘Gulabi’ range on the first day of the fashion show. Her collection had intricate floral prints and consisted of long silk skirts, crop tops, messy beach curled hair, funky sunglasses, summer accessories like bohemian wreaths, beads necklace, anklets and sole-less beads slipper patterns.
