Fashion designer Ritu Beri has been appointed as the Cultural and Tourism Ambassador for Uzbekistan in India. Beri has been working towards bringing the two countries closer by using the cultures from both nations in her clothing collections. Beri is the first Indian to be appointed to this position. She aims to further deepen ties between the two countries through her work.
Beri was the poster girl of Indian fashion in the ’90s. She is credited to be the first Indian designer to make a mark in global fashion, showcasing her work at ramp shows in Paris and becoming the first Asian designer to head a French fashion house — Jean- Louis Scherrer. A protégé of the French embroidery maestro Francois Lesage, Beri was the first face of Indian fashion in Europe. A dreamer, she enjoys impossible situations, putting all her efforts to bring challenges to reality and loves taking risks. For her, true luxury is exclusive, unique and that which is not easily accessible. She feels exquisite craftsmanship can’t be sold at a low cost and exquisite craftsmanship comes naturally to a brand that has artistic history.
