US specialty apparel retailer Gap Inc. has appointed Kirsten Green to its board of directors, effective immediately.

Green is the founder and managing partner of US venture capital firm Forerunner. Since launching the firm in 2012, she has led investments in over 100 early-stage to scaling companies, including Warby Parker, Dollar Shave Club and Faire. Under her leadership, Forerunner has raised nearly three billion dollars from institutional investors.

“Kirsten has a demonstrated ability to anticipate shifts in consumer behavior, meet customers where they are, and translate those insights into meaningful business opportunities,” said Gap Inc. president and chief executive officer, Richard Dickson. “Her perspective will be valuable as we build on the renewed strength of our iconic brands, deepen their cultural relevance, extend their reach, and create new avenues for long-term growth.”

Mayo A. Shattuck III, chair of the board at Gap Inc., noted that Green's background in helping businesses evolve adds an important dimension to the board.

The executive appointment comes as the retail group advances its business transformation, strengthening core brands—Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic and Athleta—while pursuing growth through strategic moves, including recent expansions into beauty and accessories.

“Gap Inc.’s brands have an extraordinary place in people’s lives and in culture,” said Green. “I’m inspired by the momentum Richard and the team have created and the opportunity ahead to build on that legacy.”
