Shoppers Stop has a new marketing head. Former marketing head of Marks & Spencer Debasish Gupta was appointed head, marketing loyalty and analytics. The position had been lying vacant since October when Vinay Bhatia moved to the Future Group.

Govind Shrikhande, Managing Director, Shoppers Stop, welcomed the move and said that Gupta will bring rich domain experience and marketing leadership to the company. Gupta shares the company’s values and focus on innovation and customer delight. At Marks & Spencer, Gupta helped the company to grow in India through customised marketing concepts, loyalty programme management and digital marketing.

The company has seen fantastic growth across India, particularly in East followed by West, North and South. In the last financial quarter, seven stores were opened. Now the company is targeting to add two stores every year in the department store format. The expansion plan across India will continue. The Q3, as Shrikhande says, looks good. He believes that they will hit 8 per cent in 2017.

Shoppers Stop is not reinforcing its omni-channel strategy. As such, it has been important to get the right person to help the ‘marketing efforts, carry the mantle of change management and bolster its brand equity and fashionability’.
