The latest media buzz is that Jabong’s new CEO Sanjeev Mohanty is likely to be India head of denim wear giant Levi's. Mohanty is expected to move once Jabong's on-going discussions to find a buyer wraps up in the coming weeks. With Mohanty's appointment, it would be the first time that a Levi’s MD will have an experience of heading both channels of retails offline and online.
It may be recalled that the local unit of Levi Strauss & Co has been searching for a new managing director after Sanjay Purohit left the company to join private equity firm Samara Capital. During his 11-year stint with United Colours of Benetton the European major, Mohanty is credited with building the brand into the largest foreign fashion brand in the country. He was also instrumental in steering some key brands of Madura Lifestyle & Fashion and had spent two years as product manager at Levi's at the beginning of his career in fashion retailing.
