German sporting company Adidas Group opened the largest centralised facility for sporting goods in India called the 1 DC (one distribution centre). Spread out over 260,000 square feet, the facility will be managed by the world’s leading contract logistics provider DHL Supply Chain. The centre is located at Luhari near Delhi and replaces the other five centres that the company was operating.

This move reinforces the company’s commitment to the Indian market and to drive business growth in the country. This move to consolidate the Adidas and Reebok centres from five different locations to a single distribution centre will prove to be cost efficient and flexible for the supply chain operations of the company. The walk-through in each aisle is constructed using 3,000 tonnes of steel, has over 30,000 shelves and is 22 km long. This makes the distribution centre the largest sports goods warehouse in the country.

Dave Thomas, managing director, Adidas Group, says that 1 DC is part of their creating the new approach that will enable them to ‘win more consumers, drive business growth and be better equipped to drive efficiency across the entire value chain’. He is confident that the DC will play a ‘key role in helping Adidas Group India to provide the best-in-class supply chain services to cater to a growing consumer demand across the country’.
