In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ program, Amazon has dedicated Make in India stores on both its India and the US websites. These stores will feature products manufactured in India such as tapestry, toys, handicrafts and Ayurveda products sold by more than 6,000 Indian sellers.

Amit Agarwal, VP and Country Head, Amazon India believes that ‘Amazon with its innovations such as Easy Ship, Fulfillment by Amazon and Global Selling, can be a strong enabler for Indian manufacturers, artisans, and businesses to reach customers not only in India but also across the globe’. He emphasised on the fact that Make in India connects with their mission to transform how India buys and sells. He is positive that it will be a push for Indian manufacturing and thus allow buyers internationally to access innovations and creations.

Amazon India is expanding its global seller programme that allows third party merchants to sell ethnic apparel, home furnishings and other goods to Amazon customers in nine international markets such as the US, the UK, Japan and Germany.

Amazon India was launched in 2013 and since then has established itself as a big threat to other homegrown e-commerce biggies such as Flipkart and Snapdeal. Amazon counts India among its key markets.
