Amazon India, which recently upstaged Snapdeal to become the second biggest e-commerce venture in the country, is in no mood to become complacent. It has plans to invest aggressively as well as put in place a process to help its sellers comply with the recent FDI norms in e-commerce. Meanwhile, Amazon has announced the launch of an exciting portfolio of international brands on Amazon Fashion store. Through these partnerships, Amazon becomes the first online store in India to offer a wide selection of merchandise from Bjorn Borg, Drunknmunky and Rockland luggage across the country. The store will also be launching a selection from the iconic brand Replay soon. Consumers can now shop from over 4,000 selections from close to 20 international brands on Amazon.in.
Bjorn Borg, a Swedish brand that has stores in seven European countries, forays into India on Amazon.in with the launch of the brand's latest leather sneakers. Drunknmunky, a popular fashion brand, also debuts in India only on Amazon.in with a selection of the brand's running shoes and vibrant sneakers for both men and women. Rockland, a popular US brand known for luggage sets, sets its foot in the Indian market with the launch of their eclectic luggage collection. REPLAY, a name synonymous with jeans for more than 30 years and offers close to 300 styles will also retail on Amazon.in with a collection of T-shirts, shirts, jeans, and footwear. The Amazon.in Fashion Store is among the top three stores on Amazon.in. With more than 11,000 brands and two million fashion products, Amazon Fashion also has the largest selection in categories like handbags, kid's apparel, watches, fashion and precious jewellery.
The fact that Amazon is serious about the India market can be made out from the fact the Managing director Amit Agarwal was recently elevated to Amazon’s core leadership S-team and will work closely with founder Jeff Bezos. Agarwal is confident that by investing aggressively the company can ensure that it will transform how India buys and sells.
Amazon is also betting big on its recently launched hyper local initiative Amazon Now which it will take to other cities after Bangalore. Amazon has more than 21 fulfilment centres in 10 states across India. Agarwal is confident of growing big and not slowing down. It grew by 250 per cent last year – four times more than what the industry grew.
