Designer Anavila Misra has opened a flagship store in Mumbai. The store will retail the designer’s saris, home linen, ready-to-wear garments, jewelry, home decor items and bags. Home decor pieces include cushions, curtains and wall art. Handlooms are brought to life in a modern space. Soft linen curtains are found alongside modern industrial-style lights.
Home furnishings which were for the export market will now be introduced to the Indian consumer. So there are table linen, pillows, curtains and wall art. The trademark Anavila aesthetic is equal parts rustic and contemporary. Anavila which means pure is basically a sari label. Shiny gold, delicate silver and buttery soft hand-spun saris are available along with earthy kurtas and dresses. There are saris and blouses for young girls too. The designer has created a range of handmade dolls wearing saris as well actual saris for young girls as part of her children’s wear section.
The label works with handlooms. All the textiles and techniques it works with are geared toward preserving the purity of the craft. No artificial yarns are used. The feel of the store is the way the brand is—the substance is handlooms but the whole set up is modern and contemporary. Currently the store has stocked up on the designer’s autumn/winter 2016 collection, slowly introducing the festive line.
