India’s largest cashback and coupons site, CashKaro, released a report on online fashion consumption, preferred brands and other fashion stimuli based on a survey conducted pan-India. The survey found that 35 per cent of the respondents prefer to shop for fashion online with Jabong, Myntra, Limeroad, Abof and Koovs as the top favourites.
Deals and discounts continue to be the most favoured factor for 71 per cent of respondents for online shopping. However, extra delivery charges and not having the ubiquity inspection were cited as the main downsides of online shopping experience. Also, celebrities as brand ambassadors did not lure customers as much as believed to be. Only when quality was delivered did people believe in them. And when it came to advertising, people didn’t fall for it so much as word-of-mouth publicity did a great deal.
Being fashion conscious was not just limited to women as 29 per cent men said they put special efforts into looking stylish. Around 62 per cent respondents said that apart from feeling comfortable, they also liked to look presentable and fashionable. Puma, Nike, Levis, Allen Solly and Vero Moda were the most loved fashion brands.
Swati Bhargava, Co-founder, CashKaro pointed out that online shopping had helped fashion to blossom as a category with people dedicating more time and money to stay in touch with latest trends. For people looking for inspiration when shopping for apparel, blogs and movies topped the list. While 27 per cent women read blogs, 33 per cent men derived inspiration from movies.
The survey was conducted at a pan-India level and saw a participation of around 1,000 people with 61 per cent female participation. Majority of the participants were in the age group of 20-30 years.
