A leading homegrown menswear brand, Derby Jeans Community, is looking forward to the festive season. With a 50 percent growth in the first two months of the financial year, the Chennai-based brand is optimistic about continuing good growth. Also, Derby Jeans Community has planned to open 25 EBOs this financial year. Out of this, four stores have already been opened in the first two months of the FY. By the end of 2016-17, the total EBO count will be 79.

This season, Derby has two exciting product launches. It has introduced a comprehensive range of casual blazers in 100 per cent linen, party blazers in corduroy/velvet and casual blazers in 100 per cent cotton. The price ranges from Rs 2,995 to Rs 4,995. The other product is a range of belts in genuine leather which will compliment its extensive range of men’s clothing line.

Trends are important, keeps fashion ahead

For Derby Jeans Community, introducing trends is important. It keeps them ahead in the race. For the new collection, Derby has an interesting fabric range with innovative designs and special washes. The latest trend is blending products to arrive at a hybrid design. The range of hybrid design can be seen in woven T-shirts, joggers, high-end wash techniques on indigo cottons and denims and pigment sprays on linen blends. Vijay Kapoor, MD, Derby Clothing, says, “Future trends are moving in the direction of comfort, performance and techno – these three will dominate menswear in the days to come. Also, eco-friendly products are the other major trends.”

Menswear goes hi-tech and innovative

Menswear is no longer about boring colours or the same old fabrics. As Kapoor says, “We believe in giving our customers the right attitude.” With the lines between casual and formal becoming blurred, menswear is going in for major changes. Today, linen and linen blends are majorly being used. Then grindle and mélange have also been introduced. Indigo is still big this season, carried on from the previous season. Nautical stripes are showing up with checks getting bolder. Plains are more surface oriented, they are no more solid and boring. In addition, the concept of techno is seen in fabrics as well this season – introducing the wrinkle-free, water-repellent, odour-resistent, cooling denims and much more. The colour palette ranges from pale to dark with surprising brights and neons working as accents.

Derby Jeans Community was established in 1994 by Kapoor. Today it has 58 EBOs across South India and Punjab. It is not retailed through MBOs and LFS’. The brand is also available online through own website as well as on Myntra, Flipkart and Amazon. During the festive season, Derby will focus on North and Wwest India markets.
