Kerala-based infant wear and textile maker, Kitex, is all set to launch its own brand ‘Little Star’ in the US market by October 2016. The move is done to ensure Chinese products do not dominate global markets. It entered into a licence agreement in September 2015 through Kitex USA LLC with Lamaze International Inc, USA for manufacture and supply of infant garments in the US and Canada.

Kitex is a major supplier to many global brands. Its customers include Carters, Gerber, Mothercare, Jockey and Toys R Us. It makes infant clothes for the age group 0-2 years and its key markets are the US and Europe. Sabu M Jacob, Chairman and MD, Kitex, believes the company is confident of driving the next level of organic growth by ‘expanding markets and online and offline marketing channels assisted by capacity expansion and by enhancing people and technological capabilities’. He wants to continue leveraging its leadership position in infant wear manufacturing as well as expand the market in the US through forward integration.

Kitex aims to achieve year on year growth of 20 per cent in FY17 by expanding its customers base and increasing business share with its existing customers. In order to achieve this, the company is going to increase its manufacturing capacity and for that will invest around Rs 10 crores this year. As Jacob says, his aim is to become No. 1 infant apparel manufacturer in the world.
