Almost one and half years, after it got a green signal to open stores in India, global fashion major Inditex, popularly known for its brand Zara, will launch Spanish label Massimo Dutti in India. Sources say that the company has already identified locations in New Delhi and has appointed a separate team under Managing Director Sanjay Rao of Trent Retail that manages Zara in India, for big bang launch of the brand here.
Zara is doing extremely well in the metros and has been reporting profits in just couple of years of operations in the country. While in June 2012, FIPB rejected the group’s proposal to open Massimo Dutti stores in India, citing violation of a rule framed by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), according to which an investor should own the brand it proposed to bring to India, in 2012, the application made by Zara Holdings Netherlands, got the necessary approval.
Inditex has stores under 8 formats in 80 markets around the world. In India, Zara stores are located across Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Delhi. Globally, Inditex runs — Zara, Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho, Zara Home and Uterque.
