Mustang puts its best foot forward, plans to spread across India

One of the biggest manufacturers of socks in India, Mustang has been catering to the ever growing demand of the Indian consumer. In the last two years it has been growing consistently at 10-15 per cent and hopes to continue with that pace. At the same time it will continue to hold on to the current markets and varied products.

Mustang is renowned for socks, leg-warmers and tights. What makes the brand so popular with everyone is that socks have various utilities, styles and seasons. So, there are products from health perspective such as diabetes socks for those who suffer from diabetes or DVT to the fashionable footlets. Then there are products for kids, women and men. Socks are such a personal item, and so Mustang has tried to personalise the products as far as it is possible. The socks are available between Rs 110 and Rs 300. Recently, scarves have also been introduced. For Mustang now, the future holds excitement. Lubeina Shahpurwala, Co-founder, Mustang, says, “The expansion plans we have in the pipeline are very exciting. Our distribution channels are already strong in North and West India. We are now looking to further expand to East and South. It is important for us that we reach every nook and corner of India. Along with this, technology updation and plant expansion is in full swing as well.”

Taking Indian footprints across the world

Mustang has a wide distribution network. The 25-year-old family owned company, exports socks to the Middle East including the UAE, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, England and Italy. What is a matter of pride is that it manufactures for some of the biggest global brands and retailers such as Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, Next UK, Austin Reed and so on. The company has also partnered e-portals such as Hopscotch, Amazon and so on to sell its products. Today, Mustang manufactures 1 million pairs of socks every month and these are sold through its 5,500 MBOs and 36 distributors across India.

Playing with colours and designs

The infant category holds tremendous potential. As a country, we are very protective of our children and would go the extra mile for them. Socks play a pivotal role in protecting an infant and thus this factor makes the category extremely viable. Mustang loves designing colourful, cute socks, packed with character, spark and oomph – exactly what kids’ socks demand. Along with this, the brand is extremely particular about maintaining safety standards. Kidswear is a massive segment. Its growth in the recent past has been stupendous and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Mustang’s consistency in quality and reputation has been its biggest asset.
