Myntra is stopping its mobile only strategy and relaunching a desktop version of its website next month. This is being done to lure back customers and drive growth. This is a year after Myntra shut its website and switched to app-only store.
Myntra’s CEO Ananth Narayanan announced that the company had learnt from its mistake and was humble enough to listen to its consumers’ needs. So, it had decided to relaunch the website on June 1. He believes this move will help get back customers, help women to shop more on different screens and choose from their newly launched furnishing and jewellery categories. The Bangalore-based company is looking at making profits this year. This move comes at a time when rival Amazon is expanding its fashion portfolio and investing significantly in its Indian operations. Amazon has infused at least Rs 6,700 crores since January 2015 into its India unit, Amazon Seller Services, with over half of that amount being invested since December
As per experts, this step will help the e-commerce company minimise losses without making additional investments. It will easily take care of 10-15 per cent sales growth and save them from losses. The company had narrowly missed its target of achieving 1 billion dollars (Rs 6,787 crores) annual gross merchandise value (GMV) last fiscal and has now readjusted its target to reach the milestone by March 2017.
A new ASSOCHAM report says that shopping online through smartphones is proving to be a game changer and m-commerce could contribute up to 70 per cent of the total revenues of the e-commerce players over the next couple of years.
