Ray-Ban launches e-com platform to check counterfeits

Iconic sunglasses brand Ray-Ban launched its e-commerce platform in India after converting its India website. In doing so it joins the hosts of other global brands such as Puma and Adidas. This has been done to fight off counterfeits that flood online marketplace.
Earlier the website functioned only as a reference point. The proliferation of fake products on online platform has hit Ray-Ban badly. Last year, Luxottica Group, the parent organisation of Ray-Ban, dragged ShopClues.com to the Delhi High Court, accusing the e-commerce site of hosting counterfeit products and misleading customers by offering huge discounts. Later, the company also filed cases against other online retailers such as Craftsvilla and Stylemyway for allegedly marketing fake Ray-Ban products. Last month it even received court injunction to stop a local firm from allegedly copying Oakley eyewear products that are worn and endorsed by cricketers Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh.
Since November 2015 India allows global single brand retailers companies that sell items under one label to offer their products through company-owned e-commerce portals. Bengaluru-based firm Ace Turtle manages its online platform. The company also manages e-commerce websites of other lifestyle and fashion brands of Puma, Flying Machine, French Connection and Evok.
