Topshop, Britain’s high-street fashion brand is exploring opportunities to open some stores in India. It has approached some mall owners for a possibility and its company officials have been studying the Indian market in recent years. It is yet to approach the government for a single brand licence.

The plan is still at an initial stage even though it is clear that the brand is keen to open in India. The single brand licence, which Topshop will need to open its outlet, allows 100 per cent foreign investment but on the condition of sourcing 30 per cent of the stuff locally. However, Topshop’s spokesperson hasn’t confirmed the possibility of opening in India yet. All the company has to say is that ‘Topshop is always looking for new opportunities globally’.

Topshop sells its products online in India through fashion e-tailer Jabong. Topshop is part of the Arcadia Group which is a UK-based fashion conglomerate. It owns many fashion brands such as Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins and Burton Menswear. The group operates more than 500 stores of its various brands in 35 countries in Europe, Asia and North America.
