Westside reaches a landmark, opens 100th store

Westside has just opened its 100th store in India. While competitor Shoppers Stop has around 83 stores and Lifestyle has 56 stores in the country. Westside, established in 1998, is the flagship store of the Tata Group’s retail arm Trent. Westside has 1.86 million square feet retail space in the country with net sales of Rs 8,623 per square feet. It operates three formats: Westside, Star Bazaar and Landmark.

The chain offers predominantly an exclusive range of own branded fashion apparel alongside partner brands. Westside has a strong focus on selling private labels, which fetch higher margins of around 40 to 50 percent. Westside has a range of contemporary and exclusively designed clothes for men, women and children, providing not just value for money but also the finest merchandise spanning compelling, aspirational fashion. The stores stock a broad range of products ranging from apparel, footwear, accessories to cosmetics and perfumes to home accessories and gifts among others.

During the April to June quarter, Trent reported a net profit of Rs 23 crores, up 60 percent on a year-on-year basis. Total sales during the period stood at Rs 400 crores. Ebitda margin during the period was 12.43 per cent.
