Amazon has bought Body Labs, a body-scanning startup that creates true-to-life 3D body models, for an undisclosed sum.
The online retail giant has declined to comment on the acquisition, however, Body Labs has confirmed the news on its website.
“Exciting news! We’ve been acquired by Amazon. We look forward to innovating on behalf of customers,” said Body Labs in a short statement.
Its unknown how much Amazon has paid for the startup, however, reports have suggested it could be as high as 100 million dollars.
Body Labs was founded in 2013 and its 3D body model technology has the capability of placing outfits on the 3D models, which could mean that Amazon is thinking of using it to sell its clothing. Other applications of the technology include creating video game avatars.
