Ann Demeulemeester might get new owner

Last week, FashionUnited reported that Ann Demeulemeester and its creative director Sébastian Mulier were parting ways. Now, it looks like the brand might potentially be under new leadership in the coming future.
WWD has reported that Italian retailer Antonioli is in preliminary talks to acquire the Antwerp-based label. Antonioli owner Claudio Antonioli told WWD that a deal could possibly happen before the end of summer.
Neither Ann Demeulemeester nor Antonioli made any remarks on who Mulier's potential successor could be. Mulier originally took over from the namesake founder when she left the brand in 2013.
The brand is also taking a break from the fashion calendar this year and isn't listed to show digital or physical on any upcoming Fashion Weeks. Instead, they plan on returning to the calendar in 2021.
Mergers and acquisitions could become very common in this current economic climate. As brands are struggling to turnaround after the coronavirus pandemic, many have filed for bankruptcy and are seeking options aside from liquidation. Acquisition by creditors or being purchased by other companies could be likely outcomes for many struggling brands.
