Footwear and apparel brand Bata India has had a positive Q2 with almost 19.60 per cent increase in net profit for the quarter ended June 30. Net sales too went up nearly 10.13 per cent. Perhaps what has worked for the company is its move to open 40 new stores, and nationwide launch of the Bata Insolia range of comfortable heels for women and a grand fashion event.

Now, the brand wants to concentrate on young consumers and women through its retail design concept and products. At the moment Bata has 1,200 EBOs across India, the brand looking to open a few flagship stores in metros and stores in Tier II and III cities in the current fiscal. New stores were opened in Udaipur, Jaipur and some cities in Kerala.

Bata also has a significant online presence. It has 64 franchise stores and about 1,300 retail stores; five manufacturing units and 7,770 employees. It sells 50 million footwear pairs a year.
